PEBC is happy to announce that there will be an additional Pharmacist Evaluating Examination sitting in October 2024 and beginning in 2025, PEBC will move to four sittings each year. This is to support quicker access to the exam following successful completion of the Document Evaluation. However, unsuccessful candidates will not be eligible to apply for the exam that immediately follows the one they just completed. For example, if a candidate is unsuccessful on the June 2024 administration, the next exam they would be eligible to take would be January 2025. This is due to the timing of the release of the results and the subsequent exam application deadline, as well as the importance of the candidate using the time to better prepare for their next attempt.
PEBC is in the process of making further changes to the Pharmacist Evaluating Examination which will be implemented in stages.
- Shortening the Length of the Exam
PEBC has conducted a study to explore the impact on the reliability and consistency of pass-fail decisions on shortening the exam from the current length of 200 questions. The study supports a shorter exam and therefore, PEBC will be reducing the length of the exam to 150 questions starting with the October 2024 sitting. The length of the testing time will also be reduced proportionally (~ 3 hours). Further details will be shared in early July.
- Update of the Exam Blueprint
The purpose of the Pharmacist Evaluating Examination is to ensure that candidates possess comparable knowledge to that of a Canadian, CCAPP-accredited program graduate. As all of the Canadian programs have now completed their transition to an entry-level PharmD, PEBC is in the process of updating the exam blueprint to reflect the new curriculum. PEBC will announce a new blueprint later this summer, and the earliest the new blueprint would be implemented is for the June 2025 administration. As part of the new exam blueprint, further analysis will be completed, and candidates should expect the possibility that the exam will be shortened further.
The additional offering of exam in 2024, will take place on October 9th. The applications will be added to the Portal accounts of qualified candidates by May 6th and the applications will be open until June 27th, 2024. Please see Examination Dates and Fees for the exam listing.
Candidates scheduled for the June 2024 Evaluating Examination are not eligible to move their application and fee to the October exam.
