Application for Part I (MCQ) and Part II (OSPE)
Application Procedure
You may choose to take one or both parts of the Pharmacy Technician Qualifying Examination in a given session. It is not mandatory to take both parts of the exam at the same time.
There are two different paper applications for Part I (MCQ) and Part II (OSPE). If you wish to take both Parts (I & II) of the Qualifying Examination, you need to complete and submit separate paper applications for each Part. You may send both applications to PEBC in the same envelope.
Steps to Apply:
1. Verify with the Provincial Regulatory Authority of your choice that you will qualify for provincial licensing once you are certified by PEBC.
2. You must apply online.
-
- The online application is only available until 12:00 pm (noon) Eastern Time on the online submission deadline date.
3. Print your online application(s) and complete according to the instructions
-
- The Qualifying Examination Application Checklist on page two of each application form must also be completed and signed before the application form is sent to PEBC.
4. Mail / courier your printed application(s) with the checklist(s) and identification documentation
-
- The application(s) must arrive at the PEBC office by 4:30 pm Eastern Time, on the application deadline.
- If you complete an application form online but do not send the printed form to PEBC, you will be charged an administrative fee, your application will not be processed, and it will be treated as a withdrawal.
- You do not need to submit your degree certificate and transcript. PEBC will confirm your graduation directly with your college.
Note:
- Application forms cannot be delivered in person to the PEBC office.
- If you have funds on account with PEBC, you cannot apply online and you will need to request an application form by emailing pebcinfo@pebc.ca and complete it manually. There are English and French versions of the application forms. Please request the correct version, choosing the same language in which you wish to take the exam.
- If you are applying for the Qualifying Examination after withdrawing previously, or because you did not pass your previous attempt, you need only submit a new Qualifying Examination application and fee.
- Please keep us informed of any changes to your contact information (address, telephone number, email address), by emailing the new information to pebcinfo@pebc.ca.
- PEBC will primarily communicate by email. Be sure to check your email regularly and make sure your email settings will allow PEBC emails to reach your inbox.

If a required document is not written in French or English, you will need to follow these guidelines to submit a translation:
- The translation must be prepared by a government appointed, official translator.
- Each page of the translation must include the original stamp and signature of your official translator.
- A copy, or original version of the original language document must be submitted with the translation and each page must include the original stamp and signature of your official translator.
- The name and credentials of your translator must appear in English or French.
- The version of the translation must be the original. Copies are not accepted, even if certified.
- If you are submitting a translation of your transcript, or licensing statement, the original language version you send must match the original language version sent directly to PEBC by your university or licensing authority.

If all of these instructions are not followed, we may have to ask for documents to be resubmitted which could cause you to miss the deadline.
Receipt of Online Submission and Completed Application
PEBC will send an acknowledgement email for receipt of the hard copy application, within 4 weeks of receiving it.
PEBC will also review your application and send an acknowledgement email to confirm your application is complete. For Part II (OSPE), this notification reflects the site that you selected as your first choice and not necessarily the location where you will be taking the exam.
-
- Candidates with completed Part I (MCQ) applications will receive the invitation to schedule the Part I (MCQ) exam appointment with Prometric.
- Candidates with completed Part II (OSPE) applications will receive the PEBC Admission Card for Part II (OSPE), which will confirm the exact time and location of your exam. The PEBC Admission Card will be sent approximately 3 weeks prior to the exam.

PEBC will NOT respond to requests from applicants for receipt confirmation.
The printed versions of the completed applications (including checklists) and all supporting documents must be received at the PEBC office no later than 4:30 pm Eastern Time on the application deadline date. Applications that are received after the deadline date will NOT be processed.
IMPORTANCE OF MEETING APPLICATION DEADLINE:
It is important that you meet the application deadline date, even if your eligibility to take either part of the Qualifying Examination is conditional until receipt of transcripts, confirmation of graduation or required remediation. Please do not wait for PEBC to acknowledge receipt of the above documentation, prior to sending in your application(s). Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted even if the pending documentation has been received prior to the exam dates. |

Examination Assignment and Scheduling
Part I (MCQ)
Please see COVID-19 Updates on the Prometric website, to determine if COVID-19 has affected the availability of exam centres.
Invitation to Schedule
You will schedule your Qualifying Examination – Part I (MCQ) on your own, with Prometric, once you receive an Invitation to Schedule, no later than 2 weeks before the exam. The Invitations to Schedule are emailed on a first come, first served basis, based on the date PEBC receives the Qualifying Examination – Part I (MCQ) application.
If you updated your address with PEBC, but Prometric’s scheduling platform, ProProctor, is showing your previous address, you will have no issues scheduling or taking the exam.
Exam Location Options
Once you receive an Invitation to Schedule, you can choose to have your exam take place at a Prometric test centre or at home by remote proctoring. You should review the remote proctoring and test centre information before deciding.
Due to a limited number of seats and restricted availability due to time zone differences, it will not be possible for all candidates to take their exam at a test centre. PEBC expects you to schedule and prepare for a remote proctored exam if you are unable to secure a seat at a test centre.
Test Centres
PEBC reserves the right to exclude any of the exam locations listed from any given administration if the site is not available, there are not enough applicants for that site, or for any other reason. There may be restrictions in capacity and possible cancellations leading up to the exam date. It is recommended that you NOT make your travel arrangements more than one month in advance of your exam date.
Canadian exam centres are available. You can review the list of potential sites in the Examination Dates and Fees section. The sites listed on the website and in your exam application may not all be available when you schedule your exam with Prometric.
Time Zone Scheduling Issues
You are required to schedule your exam appointment with a start time that falls within the Eastern Time (ET) exam window indicated in your Invitation to Schedule. Proscheduler’s list of appointments will also include start times that fall outside of the ET exam window. Do not schedule any of those appointments because they will be cancelled by PEBC.
Not all test centres will have available appointments with start times that fall within the exam window, due to time zone differences. If there are no appointments at your preferred test centre with an acceptable start time, please schedule a remote proctored exam.
Rescheduling, Changing Exam Centre or Exam Method
To reschedule your exam, change your test centre or exam method, visit www.prometric.com. Do not cancel your exam. Select ‘Reschedule’ under the modality you wish to take the exam in, e.g., choose ‘Reschedule’ under ‘Remotely Proctored Exam’ to reschedule from a test centre to a remote proctored exam.
Deadline: You may reschedule, change your exam centre or your exam method up to 3 days before your scheduled exam appointment. You are not permitted to reschedule your exam within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment. Moving your exam to a different exam session is not an option.
A rescheduling fee is collected by Prometric if you reschedule your exam within 29 days of your scheduled appointment. Please review Prometric’s US Foreign Policy Compliance Statement to ensure any payment to Prometric is in keeping with the sanctions they must observe as an American company.

There may be restrictions in capacity and possible cancellations leading up to the exam date. It is recommended that you NOT make your travel arrangements more than one month in advance of your exam date.
You can review the list of potential exam centres for the Pharmacy Technician Qualifying Examination – Part II (OSPE) in the Examination Dates and Fees section.
Assignment to OSPE Examination Centres
Each exam location has a fixed number of spaces for candidates. Whenever possible, PEBC will try to assign you to your first-choice location. If there are more applicants than spaces available for a specific location, PEBC will try to assign one of your other selected sites, but this may not always be possible. Your assigned location will be determined by additional factors, such as the:
-
- online application submission date
- address of residence
- proximity to a location where space is available
If you are not assigned to your first-choice location, PEBC will contact you approximately 6 weeks before the exam to advise you of your assigned site. If the total number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces available in the exam overall, not all applicants will be allocated a spot for the exam. Priority will be given to first-time test takers. If you are displaced from the exam for this reason, your application and fee will be moved to the next exam.
You are responsible for any travel and associated expenses related to taking the exam at any site.
Changing Examination Centres
Make your site selections carefully. You cannot change your sites once you have completed the online application. If you move residence after submitting your application, you can email pebcinfo@pebc.ca the details of your situation for consideration.

To take Part II (OSPE) in French, you must register for the bilingual centre, which is in Ottawa.
