Application Information
There are separate online applications for Part I (MCQ) and Part II (OSCE).
If you are applying for the Qualifying Examination after withdrawing previously, or because you did not pass your previous attempt, you need only complete a new Qualifying Examination online application, including fee payment.
Deadlines and Timing
- You must apply through your Portal account by 12 pm (noon) Eastern Time on the Qualifying Examination application deadline date.
- It is important that you meet the online application deadline, even if your eligibility to take either part of the Qualifying Examination is conditional until receipt of transcripts, confirmation of graduation or required remediation.
- Overseas candidates who require a visa to take the exam in Canada are strongly encouraged to apply for their visa prior to the application deadline date. Please see the refund policies for visa related withdrawals.
Instructions for Completing the Application(s)
The Qualifying Examination online applications are added to your Portal account once you qualify. No hard copy documents are required. Login to your Portal account and follow the instructions to complete the application(s) and pay the fee:
- Your name – contact pebcinfo@pebc.ca if your name has changed since you submitted your last application.
- Exam date – Confirm the upcoming exam date.
- Exam language – The exam is provided in French or English. You must indicate in which language you wish to take the exam and are then required to complete the exam in that language.
- Exam sites
- Part I (MCQ) – The site you select is only intended for planning purposes. You will select your actual exam location when you schedule your exam with Prometric.
- Part II (OSCE) – Choose as many as six exam sites you are willing to travel to. Selecting six sites increases the probability that you will be allocated a space for the exam. PEBC may allocate you to any of the sites, but if the sites you select are not available, you will be moved to the next sitting. If you wish to withdraw, PEBC’s refund policies apply. You are responsible for any travel and associated expenses related to taking the exam at any of these sites.
- Part II (OSCE) morning or afternoon sessions – Please contact pebcinfo@pebc.ca to provide medical supporting documentation if you need to request a specific session.
- PEBC assigned site changes – PEBC reserves the right to exclude any of the exam locations listed from any given administration if the site is not available, there are not enough applicants for that site or for other reasons.
- There may be reductions in capacity and possible cancellations at some locations due to COVID-19 restrictions, leading up to the examination date. Please check your email and the PEBC website Latest News regularly for any updates.
- Exam accommodations – please see the PEBC exam accommodations information and indicate whether or not you will submit a request for exam accommodations.
- Once you complete the application you must pay the application fee.

- If you have funds on account with PEBC please use the 3rd Party Payment option in the fee section of the application and follow the instructions provided. If you do not have enough money on account to cover the entire exam fee, please contact pebcinfo@pebc.ca for further instructions.
Steps Following Completion of Application and Fee Payment
Part I (MCQ)
- No later than two weeks prior to the exam, candidates will receive an invitation to schedule the Part I (MCQ) exam appointment with Prometric, including the exact time, date and location. If it is less than two weeks prior to the exam and you have not received your invitation, please email pebcinfo@pebc.ca.
Part II (OSCE)
- No later than 3 weeks prior to the exam, candidates will have the PEBC Admission Card added to their Digital Wallet in their Portal account, which will confirm the exact time and location of the exam. If it is less than three weeks prior to the exam and you have not received your PEBC Admission Card please email pebcinfo@pebc.ca.
PEBC Communications and Updates
- Please update your contact information using your Portal account.
- PEBC will primarily communicate by email. Be sure to check your email regularly and make sure your settings will allow PEBC emails to reach your inbox.
- You can check your Portal account as often as you like for updates on your application status.

COVID-19 – Due to the ongoing global pandemic and consequent fluid changes in public health restrictions, there may be changes or reductions in capacity at test centres for both Part I (MCQ) and Part II (OSCE) leading up to the exam. PEBC strives to provide updates to candidates as soon as possible. Please check your email and the PEBC website frequently to receive the latest updates on your exam.
Note:
The Board reserves the right to cancel the exam at any of the stated locations if there are not enough applicants for that location or for other reasons.
Part I (MCQ)

Candidates can choose to take the exam at a Prometric test centre or at home by remote proctoring, when they schedule their exam with Prometric, after receiving an Invitation to Schedule. To find out more and prepare for remote proctoring, please see Remote Proctoring information.

Assignment to OSCE Examination Centres
When you apply for the Qualifying Examination, Part II (OSCE), you must indicate six different choices of exam sites. If you do not indicate six different choices and are not willing to travel, or if you indicate exam sites not offered for the particular session you are applying for, then your location will be assigned by the PEBC office, and according to your priority level (see below).

Each exam location has a fixed number of spaces for candidates. PEBC will try to assign you to one of your choices, based on your priority level. Allocation of spots will be prioritized on the following basis:
• Candidates displaced from a previous sitting of the examination
• First time test-takers, prioritized based on receipt date of their online application
• Repeat test-takers, prioritized based on receipt date of their online application
Note: It is recommended that you NOT make your travel arrangements more than one month in advance of the exam date(s). |
Changing Examination Centres
Part I (MCQ)
To reschedule your exam, change your exam centre or exam method, visit www.prometric.com. Do not cancel your exam. Select ‘Rescheduling’ under ‘Test Centre’ to complete any of these actions.
Deadline: You may reschedule, change your exam centre or your exam method up to 48 hours prior to the first day of the exam window.
Part II (OSCE)
Make your site selections carefully. You cannot change your sites once you have completed your application. If you move residence after submitting your application, you can email pebcinfo@pebc.ca the details of your situation for consideration.

French Examination
